Police Week And Monotheistic Religions

July2003

police week

On the occasion of honoring the Police week, a conference was held in the Armenians’ meeting hall on October 7th, in which clergymen and authorities of the religious minorities’ communities and Disciplinary Force’s commanders took part.

In this meeting, in which a great number of Tehran Jews had been invited, Commander Talaei, the commander in chief of the great Tehran Disciplinary Force, took part while some of his subordinates were accompanying him.

Haroun Yashayaei, the head of Tehran Jewish Committee, in his speech, first congratulated the week of Disciplinary Force to all commanders and loyal personnel of this Force and added: in the recent years, police has reached what it is due, i.e. to be respected by people. The value of Iranian police comes from getting power from people. Later, he mentioned “Yom-Kippur” (the Jews’ great fasting on October 6th), and added: in most of European countries, the Jews’ synagogues are securely guarded and a person must pass different security and recognition parts in order to be present in such places, and this is while in “Yom-Kippur” in 23 synagogues of Tehran, which were full of people, there was no security problem, and the Jews carried out their religious duties very easily and peacefully. This peace of mind comes firstly from the respectful and moderate spirit of Iranian people and secondly from the strength of police force. Yashayaei referred to the presence of the commander of Yousef Abad Police Station (Colonel Rashidi) and his Ideological-political deputy in Kippur Ceremony of Yousef Abad Synagogue, and called it as an example of a friendly relation between people and police. At the end of his words, he said that the power of police and supporting its performance are enforced by execution of laws and observance of social scales.

The similarity and closeness of monotheistic religions, was the subject of the opening speech of Colonel Guardian General, Morteza Talaei, the chief commander of Great Tehran’s Disciplinary Region. He emphasized that the belief in monotheistic values of the religions, would be the cause of coordination and cooperation of Iranian people and their challenge against Materialism.

Talaei said: “ this common enemy, who is looking for denying the concept of religion and monotheistic beliefs, has been trying to deny our young people’s beliefs through cultural, moral and social propaganda.

The target of the meeting with followers and authorities of other religions of the fellow compatriots is that they have dialogue and interchange of ideas with police, so that we could strengthen the security and peace of the society, through a cultural and mental Jihad.

The commander of Tehran’s Police said; “ the basis for social security and discipline, is the moral element and not a political and economical element. Security and discipline is an involuntary process, which automatically emerges from within the society. Morality guards the security and discipline and this moral system is only restricted to monotheistic religions… so we believe religion is able to manage an essential social, cultural and moral system in the society and this is the police’s approach towards the social environment.”

In this ceremony, the special tablet of Tehran’s chief commander was given to Colonel General Talaei, by Rabbi Yosef Hamedani Cohen, the religious authority of Iranian Jews.
