Letter to VOA (Persian Program) In reply to the superstitious statements regarding the way of Jews’ living in Iran and giving false statistics and baseless claims in achieving political goals, which was broadcasted from VOA news network on 3 September, the Jewish CommitteeBoard of Directors and the representative of Iran Jewish Committeein Islamic Consultative Assembly, issued a reply letter, the original text of which is publicized for readers’ notice:
To: Head of Persian Program of VOA With due regards; Whereas in the program of 3 September 2007, which were presented by Mr. Jamshid Chalangi and two so-called experts in religious minorities and human rights, very false and unreal negotiations in relation to construction of the Iran Jews’ cultural, social and sport complex were set forth, it’s necessary to have the following points broadcasted from that program in order to correct the issues presented and illumination of the public thoughts: 1- Construction of this complex has been one of the ambitions of Jewish Iranian Community, which has not been put to action since before revolution. 2- Since before the revolution, all religious minorities have had similar sport-cultural complex, in which they run their activities with full liberty and based on their religious principles, examples of which are Ararat Club for the Christians and Zoroastrians Complex. 3- It should be noted that none of the religious minorities is prohibited to attend Iran’s public sport complexes and what the presenter has stated is the product of his own mind and it is in contradiction to the current realities of Iran and the broadcasted program is not communicating a message except the abasing of Iran religious minorities and denial of their brotherly relation with Iranian people. Obviously, the presence of the Minister of Housing and Urban Planning and the Deputy of Tehran Municipality and Deputy of the Organization of Physical Education, as invited by the Jews Community, is a sign of interaction between Prophet Ebrahim’s Religions in Iran and the respects of the Governmental Authorities to Iranian Jews. 4- The total population of Iranian Jews is presently 25,000 persons, out of which more than 50% are residing at Tehran and there is no evidence proving the presence of the Jews in Sistan & Baluchestan in the past 100 years. It is obvious that the Jewish Iranians, who have been coexisting with the rest of Iranian people for many centuries, do not pay attention to these baseless rumors and the expertness of the spiteful persons. If the experts of this program do not have exact information about Iranian Jews, please contact the Jewish Committees in Tehran and other cities and the Agency office, Iran Jews Representative in the Consultative Assembly to receive correct information dispassionately information.
