| Dec 2002    The conference for the dialogue among religions was held between 
      the Iranian Muslim and Polish Christian scholars at the Center for 
      Cultural Studies of the Iranian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday December 10, 
      2002. On the invitation of Hojjat-ul-Islam Muhammad Masjed Jamei, the 
      Director General of the Cultural Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran 
      (IRI) foreign Ministry and the president of the conference, and invitation 
      of the Polish ambassador to the IRI, a Jewish delegation participated in 
      the aforementioned conference. Scholars from both the IRI and Poland made several speeches at this 
      meeting and the topic of their addresses were in the main focused on the 
      commonalities of the monotheistic religions. References were also made to 
      the foundation for creation of love, which was established in Poland with 
      the purpose of bringing about rapprochement among monotheistic faiths. The chairman of first touched on the especial ceremonies held for the 
      Polish Jews at Tehran Jewish cemetery in the spring of 2002 and then 
      recited a short history on the presence of the Polish Jews in that country 
      and the cultural influence of Poland on Jews. He then referred to the 
      significant part played by Polish Jews in the contemporary history of the 
      Jewish people. Haroun Yashayaei then called on the clerics of all 
      religions to intervene in political affairs of their countries in order to 
      stop political aggressions waged by governments against various nations. On the invitation of TJC On Wednesday, December 11, 2002, Sileem 
      Hazbiovic, the Muslim deputy to Joint Association of Polish Muslims and 
      Catholics Zicislav Bilinski, the Christian deputy to the above-mentioned 
      association and Withold Schmidovski, the ambassador of Poland to Tehran 
      along with the embassy’s First Secretary and the IRI foreign Ministry 
      representative in the culture affairs attended Yousef Abad synagogue in 
      Tehran. They met and held talks with rabbi Cohen, the Jewish cleric, Mr. 
      Motamed, the Jewish MP from Tehran, and the members of board of directors 
      of TJC. During this meeting, the Jewish officials gave a rundown on the 
      conditions of the Iranian Jews and the Polish delegation then presented a 
      report on its religious activities in Poland. The latter then gave a short 
      history of the Polish Jews and explained their conditions. Later this said 
      delegation called for cultural ties to be established between Tehran and 
      Poland in the arena of Dialogue Among Religions and understanding among 
      the religious minorities of the two countries. |
